With more and more people consuming media on their mobile devices, the face of the “TV Morning Show” has changed, and the Marijuana Morning Show was born.
On top of a major shift in how we watch TV, social media has also created a kind of two-way media street where audiences not only watch, but give direct feedback and even interact with LIVE programming. On YouTube, Facebook and Instagram viewers can actually influence the content they are watching in real-time. Crazy.
Even crazier is how the kind of content we want has changed drastically. Viewing on our phones is less like watching a fancy produced “show” and more like sitting down and hanging out with our friends. And we like that. Scripted banter is out, keepin’ it real is in.
That’s probably why so many people are getting up and tuning in to a new morning show that airs LIVE on Instagram and is hosted by a real couple. The 7:10 Morning Show gets its name not only from the time it airs, but from it’s subject matter: marijuana (or cannabis, weed, grass, buds, crippy, sticky icky, if you prefer).
Like 420, 710 is a magic number in the cannabis community because when inverted and reversed is spells “OIL” – the active ingredient in the cannabis plant. Co-hosts Nurse Colleen and Pete Sessa are both medical marijuana patients in the state of Florida and are deeply involved in the community.
Nurse Colleen is Registered Nurse who gave up the hospital life to become a cannabis expert. Pete co-founded the Florida Cannabis Coalition (you’re on the website now), and has hosted more cannabis events than anyone in Florida. (He was also born on 4/20 #truestory)
Another “side effect” of social media has been the growing popularity of niche programming, or content of a specific subject matter. (Right now, there are more than 700,000 active podcasts and most of them have a very narrow subject matter – gardening, movies, science… MARIJUANA.)
The 7:10 Morning Show airs every weekday at 7:10 AM ET on Instagram. It’s LIVE, raw and uncut. It can run up to 45 minutes and whatever happens happens. The first 15 minutes of every episode is posted on IGTV, usually before 8:00 AM.
The full-length version is up on YouTube by 10:00AM. These versions are edited so the video quality is much better, not to mention its presented in widescreen format so you can see more of what’s going on. You’ll also find the archives of previous episodes on YouTube (over 40 episodes as of this article).
“The whole idea behind the show is dispell stoner sterotypes,” said Nurse Colleen. “We are up early and like many of the people who watch the show, medicating with cannabis first thing in the morning helps us to get out of bed and take on the day. There are a lot more of us than you think.”
Colleen and Pete are both registered medical marijuana patients in the state of Florida. All of the products either displayed or consumed on the show are legal medical products purchased from a licenced Florida Medical Marijuana Treatment Center.
